Rep. Sue Helm visited with a group of 4th graders from Margaret Mary School in Penbrook during their tour of the state Capitol. Rep. Sue Helm was one of the speakers at the annual Motorcyclist Rights Rally at the state Capitol on May 13. The event was part of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education’s (A.B.A.T.E.) observance of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. On April 23, Rep. Sue Helm took part in the annual Pennsylvania Second Amendment Action Day rally on the front steps of the state Capitol. Hundreds of gun owners from around the state attended the event to stand in support of their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Rep. Sue Helm visited with a group of students from Middle Paxton Elementary School in Dauphin during their recent tour of the state Capitol. On March 16, Rep. Sue Helm presented a citation from the House of Representatives to Andrew Resek of Paxtang for earning his Eagle Scout award. Andrew is the son of David and Joan Resek and is a member of Boy Scout Troop 42, Swatara Township. For his Eagle Scout project, Andrew made improvements to his church’s basement storage space. On March 18, Rep. Sue Helm recognized the Susquehanna Township High School Marching Band on the House floor for winning the 2012 USBands National Championship last November at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In the weeks leading up to the national competition, they also won the 2012 USBands Pennsylvania Championship in West Chester and the 2012 Cavalcade of Bands American Conference Open Class Grand Championship in Hershey, completing a “Triple Crown” season of excellence. Rep. Sue Helm recently attended an event at Camp Hebron in Halifax to learn about its “Build The Barn” fundraising effort. Camp Hebron is a non-profit Christian organization that offers a variety of programs for children and adults. Helm had her photo taken with Reuben, one of the camp’s horses. On March 12, Rep. Sue Helm attended the 26th annual Pennsylvania FFA Association Legislative Breakfast at the Harrisburg Hilton. Helm was hosted by members of the Upper Dauphin School District FFA, who joined her and Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary George Greig for a photo. Sue Helm presented a citation from the House of Representatives to Florence Bason of the Harrisburg area to commemorate her 90th birthday. Rep. Sue Helm attended a news conference in Hershey during which Gov. Tom Corbett announced his acceptance of a bid from Camelot Global Services to manage the Pennsylvania Lottery. The contract is expected to increase lottery revenue at a time when the demands on senior citizen benefits and services provided by the Commonwealth are growing, but lottery revenue, which funds these programs, has been stagnant. Rep. Helm participated in the Celebrity Dairy Showmanship Contest at the 2013 Pennsylvania Farm Show. The event spotlighted the significant role the dairy industry plays in the state. On Jan. 1, Rep. Sue Helm took the oath of office for her fourth term during the swearing-in ceremony at the state Capitol. Rep. Helm talked with audience members during a breakfast she hosted in Susquehanna Township for constituents in the 104th Legislative District. The group also heard from Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick, who was the guest speaker. Rep. Helm participated in a public hearing conducted by the House Human Services Committee, of which she is a member. The hearing focused on mental health issues, including the way in which mental health services are structured and funded. Rep. Helm hosted her annual spaghetti dinner in Susquehanna Township, where she discussed the state budget and other legislative issues with constituents. She also hosted a similar event in Lykens. A team sponsored by Rep. Helm took first place honors in the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition’s fifth Annual “Take A Swing Against Breast Cancer” Home Run Derby. The fundraiser was held at Metro Bank Park on Harrisburg’s City Island, one of eight such events that are taking place at minor league ballparks throughout the state during July. Helm helped break ground recently for a new medical center off Kohn Road in Susquehanna Township. The $8 million facility will house ophthalmology, plastic surgery, podiatry, and pain management offices. Girl Scouting in America will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2012. As a kickoff to the organization's many planned commemorations, a group of scouts joined with PA's First Lady Susan Corbett, other lawmakers and me for a Capitol ceremony. On Sept. 30, Rep. Helm and other lawmakers met with billionaire financier T. Boone Pickens during a seminar in Williamsport. Legislation sponsored by Rep. Helm was signed into law June 24 by Gov. Tom Corbett. House Bill 442 bans private transfer fees in real estate transactions. Members of the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS also attended the ceremonial bill signing. On Aug. 3, Rep. Helm helped break ground for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank's warehouse expansion project in Lower Paxton Township. It will more than triple the space available for food storage. She went as Dolly Madison, one of our nation's early First Ladies. Rep. Helm joined other legislators in the Capitol Rotunda on June 28 when Gov. Corbett signed the Fair Share Act into law. Helm was a co-sponsor of the bill, which reforms how damages are recovered in civil lawsuits. Legislation sponsored by Rep. Helm was signed into law June 24 by Gov. Tom Corbett.
