Helm to Host Veterans Appreciation Event on June 6
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Sue Helm (R-Dauphin) is pleased to announce that she is once again hosting a special event to recognize the service and sacrifice of local war veterans and their spouses on Friday, June 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the National Civil War Museum, 100 Concert Drive in Harrisburg. Helm has scheduled the event to correspond with the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

The deadline to reserve a seat at the event is Friday, May 23, 2014. Reservations can be made online at Each veteran in attendance will receive a special commemorative Pennsylvania House of Representatives dog tag. Lunch will also be served.

“The Veterans Appreciation Event is always one of the highlights of the year for me,” said Helm. “It is my honor to be able to publicly thank our local veterans for their brave and selfless service to the nation.”

Helm also is pleased to announce that Brig. Gen. Anthony J. Carrelli, Deputy Adjutant General-Air, Pennsylvania National Guard, headquartered at Fort Indiantown Gap, has accepted her invitation to be the keynote speaker at the event. He is the principal advisor to the adjutant general on all matters pertaining to air operations and also serves as the Pennsylvania Air National Guard commander. Carrelli is responsible for overall operational readiness, ensuring more than 4,100 assigned members are organized, trained and equipped to successfully accomplish their federal and state missions.

Carrelli graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1985. He served in the active duty Air Force for several years as a T-37, AT-38 and A-10 pilot. Following his release from active duty, Carrelli joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard where he served as commander of both the 111th Fighter Wing in Horsham and the 171st Air Refueling Wing in Pittsburgh before moving to his current position. He has been deployed in numerous operations, including Desert Storm, Southern Watch, and most recently, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

In addition, Helm is pleased to announce that Bishop Ronald Gainer, the 11th bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg, will be attendance to give the opening and closing prayers.

The event is limited to only those veterans and their spouses, or one guest, who live in the 104th Legislative District, which includes Berrysburg, Dauphin, East Hanover Township, Elizabethville, Gratz, Halifax, Halifax Township, Jackson Township, Jefferson Township, Lykens, Lykens Township, Middle Paxton Township, Mifflin Township, Millersburg, Paxtang, Penbrook, Pillow, Reed Township, Rush Township, Susquehanna Township, part of Swatara Township, Upper Paxton Township, Washington Township, Wayne Township, Wiconisco Township, Williams Township and Williamstown in Dauphin County; and East Hanover and North Annville townships in Lebanon County.

If the veteran is disabled and brought by a guest, the guest may stay for event.
