Helm to Host Free Paper Shredding Event on April 25
HARRISBURG – In an effort to help local residents combat identity theft, Rep. Sue Helm (R-Dauphin/Lebanon) is sponsoring a free paper shredding service on Saturday, April 25, 2015. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Helm’s district office located at 2090 Linglestown Road in Susquehanna Township.
“These days, we need to protect our private information and make sure it doesn’t get into the wrong hands by destroying it properly,” said Helm. “We are pleased to be able to once again provide the community with a secure way to shred large amounts of personal documents and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.”
Residents are urged to bring any paperwork that contains sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, medical data or bank account numbers, to be thoroughly shredded at no cost to them. There is no limit to the amount of paper residents can bring to be destroyed. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed. The service will be provided by Keystone Mobile Shredding Inc. of Williamsport.
In addition to the shredding service, the event will serve as a drop-off location for old prescription drugs. Residents can safely dispose of expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs that are prone to abuse and theft. No personal information is required from individuals who are dropping off prescriptions.
Residents are also invited to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, which works with more than 800 partner agencies to reduce hunger in 27 counties.
