Helm to Host Visit of Mobile Veterans Center on June 6
HARRISBURG – Rep. Sue Helm (R-Dauphin/Lebanon) today announced the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Veterans Center (MVC), which provides free services to veterans and their families, is scheduled to visit the 104th District on Saturday, June 6.

The MVC will be located outside Helm’s district office, at 2090 Linglestown Road in Susquehanna Township, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., during her Veterans Appreciation Event. Appointments are not necessary, but veterans are asked to call (717) 651-0100 so the staff knows how many people to expect. Light refreshments will also be served.

“I am so pleased to be able to bring the Mobile Veterans Center to the area,” said Helm. “Our veterans have made great sacrifices in their service to the nation. We owe it to them and their families to reach out and assist them in securing the benefits and services they are eligible to receive. I am hopeful many of them will take advantage of this opportunity.”

Trained personnel will be on hand to provide a variety of services including individual, marital, family and bereavement counseling; medical referrals; assistance in applying for VA benefits; employment guidance and referrals; alcohol and drug assessments and referrals; and information and referrals to community resources.

The 38-foot Mobile Veterans Center, which resembles a supersized recreational vehicle, features the following:

•    Two private counseling rooms.
•    Satellite communication and Internet service with VA Medical Centers.
•    Video conferencing and tele-health capabilities.
•    Three flat-screen televisions for training and educational videos.
•    Wheelchair lift and handicapped accessibility.

The U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs sponsors the MVC program to reach veterans in underserved areas. There are 50 MVCs that provide services across the country, including several that are located in Pennsylvania.
